Day 239: Drove Someone to Church

This morning, my fall softball league started in the suburbs.  Unfortunately, due to my back being screwed up, I won't be able to play.  While I won't be subjected to slaughter rule blowouts by teams made up of guys 10-15+ years older than us, I also won't be able to spend time with my friends like usual.  I'll still make my way down there for a few games, and then for a few postgame beers to watch the Bears at the (in)famous Ridgewood Tap of Homewood, but not being on the field is kind of rough.  The games typically take place during Isla's nap time, so I will have to find something to do to fill the time.

One of my best friends, Joe, is the captain of our softball team.  Joe is someone that I have always looked up to due to his character (affiliation to Ohio State football not withstanding).  The past few years have been kind of rough on Joe's mother from a health perspective.  She has had heart surgery, hip replacement surgery, and is scheduled to have her other hip replaced as well.  All the while, Joe has been there to take care of his mom, no questions asked.  Due to her recent surgeries, Joe told me that his mother has a difficult time getting herself to church every Sunday.  So today, for my random act of kindness, I gave Joe's mother a ride to church.  Since I am not able to play softball, if I am down in the suburbs to watch one of the games, I'll be sure to reach out to see if she needs another ride.
