Day 164: Kicked Off Summer Reading Club
A couple of months ago, I was invited by a woman, Ellen Bassett, to speak at a kickoff event for her library's summer reading club. Although I wasn't sure exactly what I would speak about, I happily obliged due to the fact that Ellen was planning on having the group perform random acts of kindness afterwards. She is setting up "Random Act of Kindness "stations where attendees will plant a flower to deliver to someone, make greeting cards for someone, write letters to soldiers, and make PB&Js that will be delivered to the local homeless shelter. So today, for my random act of kindness, I will help kick off the summer reading program for the Cook Memorial Public Library District. The program that Ellen is putting together this summer is tremendous because she is making reading a really fun activity for children and adults alike. I cannot stress enough how important it is to my wife and I that Isla enjoys reading, and how important we feel it is to her educational development. Getting her involved in programs such as this, along with reading with her every night, will help to show that importance. If you are in the northern suburbs, please join us tonight.
